Zen Horse
Training Tip of the Week:
Encountering obstacles on the trail.
By Clinton Anderson
Anytime you encounter an obstacle your horse is unsure of, use the Approach and Retreat Method to build his confidence. Approach the obstacle and just before your horse wants to turn away or stop, retreat and take him away from it. It’s like a game of cat and mouse. The more you retreat, the more curious and confident your horse will get until eventually, he’ll cross the obstacle.
Great tip Clint for horses and humans. When we approach an obstacle we may back off of it, turn away, retreat from it, think about it, gain more confidence to revisit the obstacle and eventually we will cross the big rocks in our lives.
Happy Trails,
Danna
