On The Road Again

Forth of July Week!

Amazing, it is the 4th of July... It certainly does not feel like the typical hot 4th of July weather I am used too. In Carmel July's average temperature is somewhere in the 50's!

How uniquely refreshing the Central Coast of California is. The foliage here is simply magical. Endless species of trees, flowers, and shrubs living in a unique Eco system that never overheats and obtains moisture daily from the great boiler maker (Pacific Ocean).

This week will be a busy week for the Burns Bunch, Salina has it's big traditional July 4th celebration with it's historic rodeo, parade, games at the park and of course fireworks.

Last year was our first 4th of July in Park City, we set outside on our patio and watched the fireworks spray the Park City Mountain Resort. The parade in Park City certainly was different, themed with miners and skiers, not cowboys and miners like Salina's.

Now a new adventure, celebrating the 4th of July in Carmel-by-the-Sea! New parade theme, new landscape to showcase the fireworks, and new folks to celebrate it with.

All celebrating AMERICA!!! Land of the Free, Home of the Brave!!!

No matter what the landscape, no matter what the theme, the celebration is the same, Let Freedom Ring, from Rodeo Arenas, to Ski Slopes, to Pacific Shorelines, my God this is an incredible country, full of fearless people, United with the strength of FREEDOM!!!

Rave Reviews and Recipes

Remember the guy who got on a plane with a bomb built into his shoe and
tried to light it?
Did you know his trial is over?
Did you know he was sentenced?
Did you see/hear any of the judge's comments on TV or Radio?
Didn't think so.!!!
Everyone should hear what the judge had to say.

Ruling by Judge William Young, US District Court.

Prior to sentencing, the Judge asked the defendant if he had anything to say
His response: After admitting his guilt to the court for the record, Reid
also admitted his 'allegiance to Osama bin Laden, to Islam, and to the
religion of Allah,' defiantly stating, 'I think I will not apologize for my
actions,' and told the court 'I am at war with your country.'

Judge Young then delivered the statement quoted below:


Judge Young: 'Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court
imposes upon you.

On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the
custody of the United States Attorney General. On counts 2, 3, 4and 7, the
Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on
each count to run consecutively. (That's 80 years.)

On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years again, to be
served consecutively to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon
you for each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000 that's an aggregate fine
of $2 million. The Court accepts the government's recommendation with
respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to
Andre Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines.

The Court imposes upon you an $800 special assessment. The Court imposes
upon you five years supervised release simply because the law requires it.
But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further.

This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and
just sentence. It is a righteous sentence.

Now, let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of you or any of your
terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been
through the fire before. There is too much war talk here and I say that to
everyone with the utmost respect. Here in this court, we deal with
individuals as individuals and care for individuals as individuals. As
human beings, we reach out for justice.

You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier
in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call you a
soldier, gives you far too much stature. Whether the officers of government
do it or your attorney does it, or if you think you are a soldier, you are
not----- you are a terrorist. And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We
do not meet with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists. We
hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice.

So war talk is way out of line in this court You are a big fellow. But you
are not that big. You're no warrior. I've known warriors. You are a
terrorist. A species of criminal that is guilty of multiple attempted
murders. In a very real sense, State Trooper Santiago had it right when you
first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the
press and the TV crews were, and he said: 'You're no big deal.'

You are no big deal.

What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys
have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how tried to
grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led
you here to this courtroom today?

I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to
search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you to
do what you are guilty and admit you are guilty of doing? And, I have an
answer for you. It may not satisfy you, but as I search this entire record,
it comes as close to understanding as I know.

It seems to me you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You hate
our freedom. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as we
choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we
individually choose. Here, in this society, the very wind carries freedom.
It carries it everywhere from sea to shining sea. It is because we prize
individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom, so
that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly,
individually, and discretely. It is for freedom's sake that your lawyers
are striving so vigorously on your behalf, have filed appeals, will go on in
their representation of you before other judges.

We Americans are all about freedom. Because we all know that the way we
treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no mistake
though. It is yet true that we will bear any burden; pay any price, to
preserve our freedoms. Look around this courtroom. Mark it well. The
world is not going to long remember what you or I say here. The day after
tomorrow, it will be forgotten, but this, however, will long endure.

Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America , the American
people will gather to see that justice, individual justice, justice, not
war, individual justice is in fact being done. The very President of the
United States through his officers will have to come into courtrooms and lay
out evidence on which specific matters can be judged and juries of citizens
will gather to sit and judge that evidence democratically, to mold and shape
and refine our sense of justice.

See that flag, Mr. Reid? That's the flag of the United States of America .
That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag stands
for freedom. And it always will.

Mr. Custody Officer. Stand him down.

So, how much of this Judge's comments did we hear on our TV sets? We need
more judges like Judge Young. Pass this around. Everyone should and needs
to hear what this fine judge had to say. Powerful words that strike home.

A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner.

'Good morning,' said the young man. 'If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners...'

'Go away!' said the old lady. ''I'm broke and haven't got any money!'' and she proceeded to close the door.

Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open... ''Don't be too hasty!'' he said. ''Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.''

And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet.

''Now, if this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder.''

The old lady stepped back and said, ''Well let me get you a fork, 'cause they cut off my electricity this morning."

On The Road Again

Longest Day of the Year!!!

Summer solstice....first day of summer arrives as memories of my youthful days dance in my head. Hot summer nights, staying out all night cruising the small town of Salina Utah. Sneaking into the swimming pool, raiding gardens for fresh peas and trips to the mountains for heat relief.

Summer in Carmel certainly has a different feel. Jacket weather most everyday, as the cool marine layer holds away the sweltering inland temperatures. Travel 20 minutes and the temperature will change 40 degrees!

Exotic tropical flowers and trees tickle my heart with a new appreciation for a different Eco system than the deserts of Utah.

Stephanie Stewart one of our Park City managers flies back to Utah this morning after spending a the U.S. Open week with us. What a remarkable young women she is, and a great asset to our team. We will miss her and look forward to her next visit.

Traveling Burns Team will be extra busy this week with the Reno Rodeo, BFI roping and all the other activities held at the Reno Livestock Event Center. Good Luck to them and Thanks for all you do in representing our products and company.

We start our second week at our new location in Carmel California with great anticipation for all the new clients and friends we will meet.

I loved summers in Salina, I loved the summer I spent in Park City, and I am loving the first day of summer in Carmel...

On The Road Again, traveling breathtaking Hwy 1 to and from Ocean Ave. home of the latest Burns venture.

Dream Big

Hello Again!!!

Did you wonder if I had fell off into the ocean????

This has been the longest I have went without posting, reason, working night and day to get the new Carmel store opened. It's official, on June 12th 2010 at 10:00am Burns Cowboy Shop Carmel opened it's doors for business.

Incredible, just 9 days prior the old tenants were removing the last of their belongings. The Burns Team does it again!!!!

Wayland, Matt, Jake, Braydan and Scott pulled off a miracle!!! The build out is spectacular, new flooring, completely repainted, new dressing room, walls removed and walls added, custom leather wrapped counters, custom glass showcases, all done in just over a week!!!

US Open begins tomorrow, with practice rounds taken all this week, Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula is swarming with golfers, media, and fans.

As I sit here happily exhausted I think, dreams really do come true....all it takes is knowing what you want, be intentional, feel the feeling of receiving your desires and take action when the people, circumstances, and events begin to come towards you with lighting speed. When I read "the Universe Loves Speed" it stuck with me...I either want it or I don't. If I want it I go after it and it races towards me.

I meet successful people every day, the top 2%. They rarely dicker over price, they either like it or they don't. They are intentional, the go after it and rarely do they experience buyers remorse. I love to learn from successful people, their ability to get what they want astounds me. They seem to have a focus and a clear vision of the direction of their dreams. And they don't sweat the small stuff.

Much appreciation fills my heart as I sit here in bed, barley able to keep my eyes open, excited for tomorrow, thankful for all the outstanding people I met today, and a deep happiness for life and all the fun opportunities that are created by thoughts, feelings and emotions.

Funny Friday

Choosing a wife
A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and watches to see what they do with the money.

The first does a total makeover. She goes to a fancy beauty salon, gets her hair done, new makeup; buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much.

The man was impressed.

The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much.

Again, the man is impressed.

The third invests the money in the stock market She earns several times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5,000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much.

Obviously, the man was impressed.

The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money he'd given her.

Then he married the one with the biggest boobs.


Men are like that, you know.


And on another note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

Zen Horse

Training Tip of the Week:

Make your horse move his feet as often as you can.

Horses establish dominance by being able to move each other's feet. The most dominant horse in a herd can make all the other horses move their feet forwards, backwards, left and right. Horses use that same principle when they are around us. Anytime you can move your horse's feet forwards, backwards, left and right, you are establishing yourself as the leader and commanding his respect. Anytime the horse moves your feet, in his mind, he's establishing himself as the leader. Remember, whoever moves first, loses. Every single time you walk around your horse to change sides you're actually signaling to him that you are submissive to him. Instead, you should be able to ask the horse to change sides without having to move your feet. This might seem like a simple concept, but believe me, your horse notices every single time you keep your feet still and make his move. Every time you can get your horse to move his feet, you're gaining a little bit more respect.

On The Road Again

As I type this I am setting on a rock 200 feet off the road as we wait for roadside assistance. Destiny's trailer had a blow out and we stripped the lug nuts trying to get them off. Smiling as I am writing my "On the Road Again" blog.

Busy, busy week last week, even busier week this week. Amazing when you think you cannot fit one more thing in you manage to do so.

I was supposed to be headed west instead of east however my mothers brother Ned passed away last week and his services will be held tomorrow.

I jumped in with Destiny to hitch a ride to Salina to be with my Mom. 60 miles from our destination, POP!!! Horses in trailer, lug nuts doing their job very well, so well they refuse to come off. Reminders that it's all about the tools:-)!

Our Burns Team closed the Las Vegas show down last night and another team heads to Heber City for the Utah State High School Rodeo Finals. Oh yeah and remember Carmel... it opens this Thursday!!!

I will jump on a plane and head towards the ocean on Wednesday morning. Misty, Tiffany, Rachael, one teenager and 5 little girls are driving out to California to help set up shop. Braydan, Jake, Matt, Wayland and Scott are hammering away trying to get the build out done before they girls arrive to load shelves and coordinate the merchandise.

Somewhere in between all this I need a hair cut and fresh nails:-)!! Why did I have to be a girl!!!

On the Road Again, In the Air Again, and still smiling, because life is good and a kind man just showed up with the right tools:-))!

Rave Reviews for all my friends in HIGH PLACES!!!

This week Destiny and Dru hauled horses and the vending trailer to Las Vegas Nevada for the NBHA Supershow.

Lynn and Sue traveled from southern California, they are part of our traveling Burns Team, They are so helpful and fun to work with, we could not have done it without them. Rave Reviews to them, they are remarkable.

Lynn, Sue, Peggy and Gary will travel to Carmel to run the shop for a week during our next big Xtreme Barrel Race held at the Blackhawk Arena July 8-11th in Salina Utah. What a Fab Fun Four, the shop will be left in great hands.

Rave Reviews also to the build out team busily working constructing the remodel for the new store in Carmel. Jake, Matt and 3 generations of Shaw's, Grandpa Wayland, Scott and Braydan will finish up just in time for the opening on June 10th.

Exciting times for our company, we have an incredible team that are unified in their efforts to give impeccable customer service and provide authentic high quality western lifestyle trappings.

And finally Rave Reviews to all my barrel racing friends. After two decades the family has grown tremendously, for the past two years I have been off the road starting new adventures, however, my heart is still with my peeps the barrel racers!

Funny Friday

ADVICE FROM A RETIRED HUSBAND

It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are oversensitive, and there's nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.

My name is Ron. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Carol Anne. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Carol Anne to get a full-time job, along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work

Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club, so eating out is not an option in the evening. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door. She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner.

I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, Boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two, or even three days. That way, she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points..

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half-finished mowing the yard. I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man.. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me, too. .

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Carol Anne. I'm not saying that showing this much patience & consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, Guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

EDITOR'S NOTE:
Ron died suddenly on March 31 of a perforated rectum. The police report says he was found with a Calloway extra-long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby. His wife Carol Anne was arrested and charged with murder. The all-woman jury took only 10 minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defence that Ron, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.

I once heard that you should work on yourself as much as you work on your job. When I started working on me daily an enormous shift began to occur in my life. My old mind set thought I could change others for my sake as well as theirs. Smiling now I realize how much easier it is to just be in charge of me, I am a big enough project to undertake:-)!

Few people think, they exist. I study people who think. Braydan and I were talking about this subject the other day he said, "remembering is not thinking" how true!! We hear something and remember it and it rolls over and over in our mind. A song pops into our head and it plays over and over, we did not think the song, the song was previous work that we keep playing over and over again.

Thinking is imagination, creating, finding a way to achieve ones goals, dreams, and aspirations. Taking action, and following that inner intuition that brings awareness of the possibilities. People circumstances and events begin to show up, aligning all that is needed for your pre-thought desire.

Living in the magic of life!! Starts with THINKING DAILY, just like bathing, if you don't take the time for it your life really stinks:-)

Tipsy Tuesday

"Living in the present moment wisely and earnestly", each of us have the very same amount of time each day, all moments, each moment filled with potential. I remind myself many times a day when my mind wanders to past and future that this is the best moment of my life, it is the only moment of my current life I should not be wasting it on fear and guilt.

So I remind myself and guide myself to enjoy this moment, for this moment is my life!
