Rave Reviews and Recipes

Old Age, I decided, is a gift I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be.
Oh, not my body!
I sometime despair over my body, the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging butt.
And often I am taken a back by that old person that lives in my mirror (who looks like my father!), but I don't agonize over those things for long..

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly.
As I've aged, I've become more kind to myself, and less critical of myself.
I've become my own friend.
I don't chide myself for eating that extra chocolate, or for not making my bed,
I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon ? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 & 70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love .. I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.
They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful.. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten.
And I eventually remember the important things.
Sure, over the years my heart has been broken.
How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car?
But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion.
A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.
So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver
As you get older, it is easier to be positive.
You care less about what other people think.
I don't question myself anymore..
I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer your question, I like being old.
It has set me free.
I like the person I have become.
I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be.
And I shall eat chocolate every single day. (If I feel like it)

My friend Deb sent me this, will be riding the Sierra Nevada's together next month, adding more memories and lines to our faces.

Happy Trails,

Danna

Zen Horse

My blog today is a combination of Monday's, On the Road Again and today's Zen Horse. I missed Monday's spot because the road was leading me to the Boulder Mountain to ride for 3 days with my wonderful Zen Horse friend Celia.

We go through a life of relationships, parents, siblings, spouses, and friends, if your full of great fortune you have good relationships with each of them. If you are really lined up you get to meet and become dear friends with someone like Celia Snow.

I met Celia 5 years ago when another wonderful friend M'Recia invited me to ride with her and some friends. From the moment I first saw her I was in awe. This lady is PURE 100% COWGIRL! Well I should say this lifetime, one of her past lifetimes she had to be an Indian Princess or Sacajawea herself.

We usually ride mules just to add more adventure, however this time she took pity on me and loaned me a new mount a 17 year old gray mare. How appropriate for me:-) I ain't what I used to be either!

The Boulder Mountain is one of the many common loves we share. Two women camping, exploring dessert canyons, finding cool rocks, star gazing with constellation charts, laying on our backs watching clouds, and campfire stories both past and future. Bird watching with binoculars, stopping along the trail to photograph the perfect dessert rose in peak bloom. Pulling out flower books to search for a new flower, total amercement into nature. Sounds like 3rd graders.! She did read and gift me with a children's book about greeting the Sun.

I love to get up and greet and give thanks to the incredible energy that unconditionally shines on the whole, no matter your race, religion, or background, on Wednesday morning on the Boulder mountain I witnessed the second most beautiful sunrise of my life.

Celia is a trail blazer, she gets her maps out and knows there is other ways in and out of these rugged areas. The trails this ride were gentle in Celia's standards, no jumping up or off any cliff's, no crossing rivers you can't see the bottom on, no teetering off 2 foot shell ledges. Just perfect weather, perfect mountains and red rocks all appreciated over a cold beverage and wood smoke.

Celia is truly amazing, fearless, yet soft, adventurous, and compassionate, she is a wonderful mentor and TRUE friend. Her home is filled with cowboy treasures, both new and old. So tasteful in both dress and decor. Her love for the Native American is evident in her jewelry and treasured Indian Doll collection.

I am truly blessed to have a friend to share these amazing adventures with, my Zen Horse Friend, Celia Snow. (Jumps Off Mules).

Damn Amazing Stuff

IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING THE ADVERSITIES SOME PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO OVERCOME.

In a Chinese modern dance competition on TV, one very unique couple won one of the top prizes. The lady in her 30's was a dancer who had trained since she was a little girl. Later in life, she lost her entire left arm in an accident and fell into a state of depression for a few years.

Someone then asked her to coach a Children's dancing group. From that point on, she realized that she could not forget dancing. She still loved to dance and wanted to dance again. So, she started to do some of her old routines; but, having lost her arm, she had also lost her balance.

It took a while before she could even make simple turns and spins without falling. Then she heard of a man in his 20's who had lost a leg in an accident. He had also fallen into the usual denial, depression and anger type of emotional roller coaster. But she was determined to find him and persuade him to dance with her. He had never danced, and to dance with one leg....are you joking with me? "No way!"

But she didn't give up and he reluctantly agreed thinking...."I have nothing else to do anyway." She started to teach him dancing. The two broke up a few times because he had no concept of using muscle, how to control his body and knew none of the basic things about dancing. When she became frustrated and lost patience with him, he would walk out. Eventually, they came back together and started training seriously.

They hired a choreographer to design routines for them. She would fly high (held by him) with both arms (a sleeve for an arm) flying in the air. He could bend horizontally supported by one leg with herleaning on him, etc.

In the competition, as you will see, they dance beautifully and they legitimately won the competition. When I watched this, I didn't even realize that she was missing an arm because I was focusing on the guy with only one leg.
Really quite amazing!

Tipsy Tuesday

My tip this Tuesday is:

No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

My mother has been a pillar of strength all her life. She has buried 2 son's and her husband. Has lived alone for over 20 years and I can't recall a day of missed work for sickness. She just gets up and goes on. Her example of resilience is impeccable. She celebrates 50 years with Burns Saddlery Inc. you will see her crossing main street every morning noon and night as she puts one foot in front of the other making her way to her personal legend, Indian Blanket seat covers.

I am so proud of her, thanks Mom for being you, and allowing me to be me.

Inspire Me

Fathers Day 2009.

Fathers Day is always bittersweet for me. I lost my Dad in 1988 after a short painful 2 month stint with cancer. He was not only my Dad but was my boss and friend. We spent everyday together either working at the store or traveling watching the race horses he loved. My Dad was legendary for having fun!

His fearless sense of adventure was incredible. He taught me to love the mountains, deserts, horses, fishing, camping, boating, skiing, all types of sports and just living life to the fullest.

I had to grow some emotional muscle instantly, pull up my boot straps and carry on. He left big boots to fill. His personal legend lives on with Burns Saddlery, his race horse lines that are now being shown by his granddaughters as top barrel racing bloodlines, many trails still remain in the mountains with his unique signature on the aspen trees.

Appreciation feels my heart for the opportunity to have been raised by a father full of adventure and a zest to experience all aspects of life.

Gratitude also for my husband Scott who truly is the best father and grandfather I have ever known.

Happy Fathers Day to all Dad's you truly make a difference in all our lives.

"The quality of events surrounding you in any given moment in time may be reflecting specific beliefs that you hold in that moment of time."— Gregg Braden: a pioneer in bridging science and spirituality

Every day you wake, know that your life is shaped by your experiences, your thoughts, your beliefs, and your actions. In the same light, your life is limited by each of those as well. Now imagine you can press a reset button and drain your mind and spirit of all past mistakes; political, social, and religious bias; and negative beliefs and experiences. Start seeing yourself and your world through the eyes of child — with wonder and amazement. Gregg Braden helps you re-focus your beliefs. Discover the most powerful force in our universe...

We live our lives based on what we believe about the world, ourselves, our capabilities, and our limits. With few exceptions, those beliefs come from what science, history, religion, and other people tell us.

What if those beliefs are wrong?

Historically, we have been taught that we are passive observers in the universe and that we are governed by the “rules” of time, space, and our DNA. It is precisely these beliefs that often leave us feeling powerless in the face of life’s greatest challenges.

What if we are limited only until we change the way we see ourselves in the world? How differently would we live if we discovered that we are born with the power to choose the reality of our world, how healthy we are, and even how long we live?

Such a radical discovery would change everything about the way we see ourselves! It is also precisely what the leading-edge science of today is showing us.

Gregg Braden's writings stimulate thought, this forward thinking spiritual scientist , got my attention about six years ago, I have read several of his books, listened to him speak in a conference, and enjoy his Science meets Spirituality concepts. His new works The Spontaneous Healing of Belief and Fractal Time are my next reads.

If your looking for mind expansion and want to delve into limitless possibilities, read Braden.

Dream Big

"You are the most powerful magnet in the universe! You contain a magnetic power within you that is more powerful than anything in this world, and this unfathomable magnetic power is emitted through your thoughts."— Rhonda Byrne: Author of The Secret

We are a giant magnet, Rhonda is right. I started reading and studying the law of attraction 6 years ago, however I knew thoughts, feelings, and actions were important from riding horses at a young age.

Horses seemed to know how I felt. If I was nervous they became nervous. If I was calm they remained calm. Horses have extra sensory perception. So while I was around them I would alter my attitude to accommodate the desires I wished to obtain.

When competing when I was excited, my horse became excited. People often say, my horse knows my name. When they call your name to enter the arena your horse gets all excited. Your thoughts and anticipation transfer to your horse and he reacts.

You can learn a lot about your thoughts through a horse. Before getting on the horse you can learn a lot about what type of ride your going to have by how the horse acts on the ground. If he is disrespectful or fearful you better spend some time on the ground and work out those issues, or you will experience a very uncomfortable ride.

Many people get hurt on horses because they don't take the necessary time to neutralize the mind of the horse before they swing on, they think they can just ride it out of them, when taking a extra few minutes before swinging on to observe your horse and work through his fear and dis respectfulness can prevent an accident.

Dream Big!!!!

Thoughts become things. If you don't know how the law of attraction works, go rent the movie "The Secret".

Thanks Rhonda for putting together this great movie, I gave away 26 copies when I first saw it. I wanted everyone to know about it. Get your copy today, or re watch the one you have. Your dreams are just a thought away.

With much appreciation,

On The Road Again

Burns road warriors heading down the loneliest highway in America today, destination Reno Nevada home to one of the largest rodeo's in the west, "Reno Rodeo ". Braydan, Jake and Lynn will set up and sell for the next 2 weeks. If your headed out there look them up, great deals on Lucchese Boots!

A soggy Utah State High School Rodeo Finals, created quite a challenge for the contestants as well as the vendors. Day after day the skies turned loose on the fairgrounds at Heber City Utah. Congratulations to all those who faired the elements to qualify for nationals.

Randi and I stayed dry and warm at the Cowboy Shop in Park City where the 125th anniversary of city hood took place, unfortunately it was cut short because of the intense thunder storms that continue to roll through this beautiful mountain resort town.

I am home this week, thinking however of hitting the road and run over to Jackson Hole, or Colorado to check out a couple of business ventures.

Heaven forbid I stayed home cleaned the house and took a day off.

Doing what I love and loving what I do, finding new adventures.

Buddhists recognize Buddha as an awakened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end their suffering by understanding the true nature of phenomena, thereby escaping the cycle of suffering and rebirth (saṃsāra), that is, achieving Nirvana. Among the methods various schools of Buddhism apply towards this goal are: ethical conduct and altruistic behaviour, devotional practices, ceremonies and the invocation of bodhisattvas, renunciation of worldly matters, cultivating continuous mindfulness, meditation, physical exercises, study, and the cultivation of wisdom.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him. Buddha

All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. Buddha

Wise sages living thousands of years ago teach us that to direct ones mind to happiness, love, joy, and worthwhile desires will certainly give us a positively enjoyable experience of LIFE!

Best Ever Hamburgers

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
1 lb. lean ground beef
4 drops Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. crushed oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
6 hamburger buns, split

1. In a large bowl, combine the beef, Worcestershire, oregano, salt and pepper. Mix well and form the meat into 6 patties. When the coals are hot and evenly distributed, place the burgers in the center of the grill and set the buns, open-face down, to the outside edge. As soon as the buns are toasted, flip the burgers and place a bun top on each. This will help the meat cook through while the bread soaks up juices. Serves 6. Set out with your favorite condiments.

It's BBQ time, get out and enjoy!!!

Zen Horse

If your horse is fresh, disrespectful, and has a bad attitude on the ground, guess what he’ll be like under saddle? Worse!

Get all of the kinks out of your horse on the ground, so that when you get on, you won’t run into problems.

All the problems a horse can have come from two causes: a lack of respect or fear (or both).

By following a groundwork program, you address both causes: the sensitizing exercises earn respect from the horse and the desensitizing exercises eliminate the fear.

By eliminating those causes on the ground, it prevents you from having to deal with them under saddle.

Any trouble you run into when you ride is usually proof of lack of preparation on the ground.

No one does anything they do not want to do.

You always have a reason--and usually, a pretty good one--
for doing what you are doing and choosing what you are
choosing. Be careful not to convince yourself that you are
doing something against your will. Such a thing is impossible.

Therefore, be honest with yourself as to why you are choosing
to do a particular thing. Then, do it gladly, knowing that you
are always getting to do what you want. The statement "I have
no choice" is a lie. You can choose. You simply do not prefer
the alternatives available to you, for whatever reason. So you
select the outcome that you most prefer. Isn't that power?

Neale Donald Walsh sent me this, wanted to share.

All of life's outcomes begin with a thought, a vision, and a dream, directing your mind in the direction of what you want creates that, constantly feeling like a victim will give you more circumstances to play that role.

" Dream Big!" feel the feeling as if you already have what you are desiring, this is a feeling Universe, direct your feelings to that which you desire, feel how it will feel once you manifest it. Always feel good. Your dream depends on it.

On The Road Again

Another show is in the books! NBHA show held at the beautiful South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas Nevada.

What fun it is to get together with all the barrel racers from around the west, sharing a common love of this great sport.

Destiny (my daughter) had good and bad luck, Friday she hit barrels on one horse to win big, and her other horse ended up 11th out of 771 runners. Saturday was her day she ended up 4th and 7th in the 1D with 805 runners. 2 horses in the top ten with over 800 way to go Destiny.

Barrel Racing is a humbling sport as Sunday brought more down barrels, but appreciation for the nearly $3000 she netted over the weekend.

On the road this morning hauling all the goods to Heber City Utah for the Utah State High School Rodeo Finals. Unload this trailers inventory into the two trailer two tent set up and be ready for business tomorrow.

Busy, busy, busy... Las Vegas last week, Heber City this week, Reno Rodeo next week. Oh throw in Fathers Day for both Salina and Park City stores.

Laundry could be an issue this next while. Glad I have someone to mow the lawns. Oh well many don't have a job or a home, I have two of each.:-)

Doing what I love and loving what I do!!!

Inspire Me

Solitude
Ella Wheeler Wilcox
(1850-1919)

LAUGH, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone.
For the sad old earth must borrow it's mirth,
But has trouble enough of it's own. Sing,
and the hills will answer;
Sigh, it is lost on the air.
The echoes bound to a joyful sound,
But shrink from voicing care.
Rejoice, and men will seek you;
Grieve, and they turn and go.
They want full measure of all your pleasure,
But they do not need your woe.
Be glad, and your friends are many;
Be sad, and you lose them all.
There are none to decline your nectared wine,
But alone you must drink life's gall.
Feast, and your halls are crowded;
Fast, and the world goes by.
Succeed and give,
and it helps you live,
But no man can help you die.
There is room in the halls of pleasure
For a long and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on
Through the narrow aisles of pain.

I love this poem, the title of this poem could easily be attitude.
Laugh and the world laughs with you is a true statement. Everyone enjoys being around a positive person, their vibration resonates with joy and has a uplifting effect on everyone.

Energy field theory says that there is an invisible vibratory field of energy surrounding all living objects, including human beings. This field is created by how we think and process our experiences. At certain levels of consciousness, the energy field vibrates fast. At other levels of consciousness, the energy vibrates slow. These fields of energy we encounter daily.

I remember going into castles in Europe where the energy fields from thousands of years ago still existed. Entering the torture chambers of these properties made me sick and It felt labours to breath.

We all know people that we avoid because they suck the life right out of us. Their low vibration of consciousness can be felt and my instinct is to get away from them.

People that love what they do and live life to the fullest inspire me, they give me all kinds of physical energy while I am in there presence. Gratitude flows through them and into me. We all encounter both energies daily, I am happy to have the awareness not to judge, just observe and chose a higher energy field.

KIRKUS REVIEWS

I went to the film this past week and found it to be very thought provoking keeping your mind constantly in the flow of the movie. The scenes of Rome, the Vatican, and the ancient archives were incredibly depicted. Tom Hanks has had better performances, but it is hard to top his mastery in Forrest Gump and Castaway. It makes you think about organized religions influence and power over the world, especially the magnitude of the Roman Catholic Church.

I look forward to reading the book, the reviews above are great referrals.

Funny Friday

A secretary for a foreign embassy was entertaining a wealthy foreign ambassador during lunch at a very expensive restaurant in New York.
The ambassador was so enthralled by the beauty and presence of this secretary that he asked her to marry him.
The secretary was startled, but remembered that her boss told her never to insult foreign dignitaries, so she decided to let him down easy.
"I'll only marry you under three conditions.""Anything, anything," said the ambassador.
"First, you must buy me a 14-karat gold wedding band with a 72 carat diamond, along with a 28 inch studded matching necklace for our engagement.
"Without hesitation, the ambassador picked up his cellular phone, called his personal accountant, told him the instructions, and said, "Yes, yes, I buy, I buy!"
The secretary thought that her first request was too easy, so she thought of a more difficult situation.
"Second, I want you to build me a 58-acre mansion in the richest part of the Hamptons along with a 40-acre summer home in the sweetest vineyards of France.
" The ambassador picked up his phone, called his personal broker in New York, then called another broker in France, and after his quick conversation, he said, "Yes, yes, I build, I build!" The secretary was very startled, and knew she must think of a final request that would be impossible to live up to.
"Finally," she said. "I'll only marry you if you have a 10-inch penis."A sad face befell the ambassador, and he cupped his face in his hands.
After weeping in his native language for a few minutes, the ambassador slowly lifted his head and said, "Ok, ok, I cut, I cut!"

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it all!

Zen Horse

Writing Thursday's blog Zen Horse I usually use Clinton Anderson's tip of the week, this week however is my favorite Zen Horseman's birthday so I have chosen to talk about her, yes her.

Zen points directly to ones heart, and Zen Horse for me is the connection between the heart of the person and the heart of the horse. The person I am featuring today certainly has a Zen connection with horses, you know, she really has a positive connection with everything.

This connector was born June 4th 1981 at 2:38 pm on a beautiful summer day, her hair was long and black and from the moment I held her, I knew she was someone unbelievably special. She was my Destiny and so her name was given.

Destiny loved horses from conception. If I was around a horse while I was pregnant with her I could feel her excitement inside me.

Riding at a very young age, she never complained and never wanted to get off. She helped my father raise a colt off a bottle when she was pre-school age and later would train it to be one of the best horses we ever owned.

Her grandfather on my husbands side, Wayland continued fueling her passion for the horse by riding in the hills and hauling her to 4-H shows.

Despite a serious injury on a horse that took a year of healing and 3 surgeries to save her foot the thought of riding her horses again was the driving force of her rehabilitation.

We knew this was her life purpose, her personal legend was on the back a horse. We sent her to many different trainers, she was taught many different disciplines of riding but her favorite was barrel racing. I wanted her to be a rodeo queen which she was, but all she could think of was going fast!

Race horses have been in my family since the 60's so mounts came easy, training these race horses right off the track not so easy. Destiny with her gentle mannerisms provided a calmness to these high strung animals.

By the age 13 she was winning 1st division national championships on horses she had trained, amazing accomplishment for a young girl her age.

Her junior year in high school she won almost $40,000 in futurities, three champion titles and many top 5's in a sport that is hard to win one.

Always working on the next great prospect she started selling horses that provided her good income to continue training and maintaining the rest of the herd.

Scott and I hauled her all over the United States, memories were made in arena's across the west. I watched this skinny little weak girl that loved horses evolve into a accomplished horsewoman on a mission.

The mission however was never to chase the competition, it was always to make a positive experience for the horse. Her ability to heal these horses became efficient as she would listen intently to the vets while they worked on her horses, asking questions and charting what worked and didn't work.

At 16 she hooked up the horse trailer by herself and that day drove to Heber City to the high school rodeo finals. At that same age she started doing acupuncture on her own horses, and could main line all of them.

Scott being a race horse trainer taught Destiny so many things. She always listened and wanted to learn more. I was amazed how quick she learned and how well she retained the information.

Now she is a mother to my perfect grandchildren, she runs our barrel racing association Horse Events Inc. and oversees all operations. She continues to ride, train, and compete as a top contestant in her sport.

Last year Destiny started a new quest as a equine therapist, she certified in Acuscope and myopulse use. Wanting the knowledge just to help her own horses has quickly grown to scores of people searching her out to help them with their horse's ailments. This month she will finish additional training which will make her completely certified to also work on humans. The results she has received are incredible in both horses and humans. I believe not only in the instruments but I believe in her as a healer, she truly has a gift to heal.

Her example inspires me, I am so proud of her for the person she is and the positive light she is on the world.

Destiny turns 28 today, she has accomplished much in those short years, I smile where she will be in the ones that follow.

Happy Birthday to the best Horseman/woman I know, and I know many.

Love.

When two or more people are working in harmony towards a purpose the results are incredible. When you mentor someone and involve them in your project, both are the benefactor.

We have a great team at Burns Saddlery Inc. our projects and tasks are many and our results vary, however we certainly learn. We learn how not to do things and we learn how to improve things, and we encourage and help each other along the way. Our success depends on it.

Thank you Benjamin Franklin, you are my Tip this Tuesday!

Cheers,

Danna

On The Road Again

Last week, went riding mules for 4 days with my adventurous friend Celia Snow, we had a outstanding time. I only had one bucking incidence, one runaway, and only got hung up once, other than that, oh yeah and I only locked myself on the wrong side of the gate once as well.

We rode the water pocket fold out on the Sandy Ranch in South Eastern Utah, OMG how beautiful and remarkable this country is. I came away with a deeper love and appreciation for life!

My youngest daughter Tegan graduated high school on Friday night YAHOO!!!!
Scott, Rylan (my Grandson) and I headed back early Saturday morning to work at Park City. Slept in my bed one night,
I had all the fun and adventure four days prior riding mules up dangerous canyons, brought my body home intact just to find my husband Scott couldn't walk, apparently he pulled his groyne at horse show last week, liked it so much he pulled it again in Park City going down the stairs and instantly became disabled.

I now know why women have the babies. If you know our bunch, the show must go on, so I unpacked, did 8 batches of laundry, repacked, drove to Salina, got in with my daughter and son in law and headed to Las Vegas.

This week we are setting up and selling at the big barrel race held at the beautiful South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas Nevada. My daughter competes so we have a trailer of product and a trailer of horses at this event. My Son and his family are heading to Nashville Tennessee then on to NYC.

Ask us what we do in our spare time.

On the Road Again, destination Happiness!!!
